Why we built it
A few simple frustrations led us here:
- Creators wanted to save their own work. TikTok’s app does not always make it easy to back up your own uploads cleanly, especially in bulk.
- People wanted personal archives. Favorite cooking videos, family clips, niche tutorials — the kind of content you want to keep even if the platform changes its mind tomorrow.
- Educators and journalists needed clean copies. A watermark-free MP4 is easier to cite, edit, and analyze than a screen recording.
We are not trying to replace TikTok. We are trying to make one part of a creator’s life — saving a copy — as low-friction as possible.
How it works
- You paste a public TikTok URL.
- Our server asks one or more third-party extraction APIs (currently tikwm.com and ssstik.io) to resolve the link into a direct media URL.
- We stream the media from TikTok’s own CDN through our proxy endpoint to your browser as an MP4, MP3, or image bundle.
- We forget about the request. There is no log of what you downloaded and no copy stored on our servers.
For bulk mode, we just do that loop in parallel, with reasonable rate limits so we are good neighbors to the upstream APIs.
Why it is free
Simple, useful tools should stay simple and useful. Tiksy is cheap to run because it stores nothing — no databases, no user accounts, no media files at rest. There is no business model that requires us to learn anything about you, and we like it that way.
If we ever need to cover infrastructure costs, we will look for the least-invasive option. We will never sell your data, because we do not collect data worth selling.
Our privacy stance
We treat privacy as a feature, not an afterthought:
- No accounts, no email, no passwords.
- No download history tied to you.
- IP addresses are used in memory for rate limiting and discarded.
- Theme preference lives only in your browser.
- No third-party advertising or marketing trackers.
The full details are in our Privacy Policy.
What we are not
- We are not affiliated with TikTok or ByteDance Ltd.
- We do not host or republish creator content.
- We are not a way to bypass private accounts, age gates, or paid content.
The tech
For the curious:
- Next.js (App Router) on the front end with React and TypeScript.
- Vercel for hosting and edge networking, in US and Singapore regions.
- Stateless API routes that call upstream extraction APIs and stream media.
- In-memory caches and rate limits — no database, no persistent storage.
- A boring, modern, accessible UI that respects your system theme.
Responsible use
The tool is just a tool. Whether a particular download is appropriate is up to you and applicable copyright law. Please respect creators: download your own content freely, and treat other people’s content with the same care you would want for yours. See our Terms of Service for the full picture.
